Cold Capping

What is Cold Cap Therapy?

Cold Capping is a drug free and non-invasive technique of scalp cooling, proven to be successful in minimising hair loss, reducing minor injury oedema (swelling) and when used as part of a healthy lifestyle may help to relieve the impact of migraine or headache symptoms and other trichology conditions.

A specially designed cap, filled with a cold Crylon gel, gently hugs the patients head and lowers the temperature of their scalp.

The metabolic rate of the hair capillaries reduce, moving them into a hibernated state. There is also the process of vasoconstriction, that causes the blood vessels to constrict. It is this, that effectively stops the hair bulbs from absorbing, so the patient is able to minimize their hair loss.

Before and after

What is the success rate?

Most customers retain between 60 to 90% of their hair.

Several factors including age, hair type, weight and the time to detox. By closely following your Personalized Penguin Cold Capping schedule, you too can minimize up to 90% of your hair.

Why does Penguin Cold Caps get the best results?

There are two types of Cold Cap therapy – manual and machine. Penguin Cold Caps is a manual system.

This means that patients can move around while undergoing treatment and do not need to stay connected to a machine.

There are 3 key reasons why manual Cold Cap therapy gets better results:

  • Machine Cold Caps are often removed 120 minutes after treatment ends and the patient leaves the clinic. It takes much longer to detox the body.  Removing the cap too early allows the warming hair follicles, resulting in hair loss.
  • Machine capping is not as cold as manual capping.
  • Machine caps do not hug the head as closely as manual caps. This means that not all parts of the scalp are cooled sufficiently, which can lead to bald patches.

Whilst diagnosis my was taking everything else, saving my hair was the one thing I felt I had a level of control over. My hair looks amazing after – super healthy, lots of growth, and most importantly, I still look like me.

What does it feel like?

While the caps are cold, many patients tell us they expected them to feel far worse.

Cold capping will never be an entirely comfortable experience, but most people find the cold bearable. The first cap is the coldest – but as the scalp cools and the nerve endings numb, patients say they don’t notice the cold as much.

Cold capping does require commitment – it’s not a ‘walk in the park.’

But if minimizing hair loss is important to you and you stick to your personalized schedule,  you’ll have a high chance of success.

Although saving my hair wasn’t the most important thing, I didn’t want others to see me as a patient. I wanted to retain some sense of normality.
